Hangout with Michael Kitces: Emerging Trends in Financial Planning and Implications for Planners

I’m very excited about this next hangout session! Set your reminders for 1:00pm on Wednesday, 27th March.

My guest for this session is Michael Kitces, a thought leader in financial planning in the US and increasingly globally and the author of the enviable Nerd’s Eye View blog.

Have you ever wondered what financial planning will look like in 5 – 10 years’ time? What are they key emerging trends in financial planning today and which of these poses the biggest threat to planners?  I am going to be asking Michael these questions.

And what about the value of financial planning? 1.8%pa? 8%? I have seen all kinds of numbers thrown around but what is financial planning really worth? And please don’t patronise me with that phrase ‘peace of mind!’ A recent attempt by Morningstar’s David Blanchett and Paul Kaplan to quantify the value of financial planning strategies pegs it at 1.82% pa. But given that many planners charge up to 1%pa, does this do justice to the real value of financial planning? Is there a better way to quantify and demonstrate how planners actually add value to clients?

Increasing, we are seeing a trend towards the commoditsation of financial planning and new business models from the likes of LearnVest. How can planners stay ahead of the curve in the digital age?

And what about that hot subject of blogging and social media, which by the way Michael does amazingly well, why should planners bother? If there are only 3 things any planner could do in this regard what will they be?

Michael is going to share his incredible knowledge and experience on these issues. Feel free to drop your questions  in the comments below or on twitter with the tag #finalytiqhangout.
